Volcan Arenal, Costa Rica. Beautiful sights.
We’re on our way to white water rafting today!
An adventure awaits! Life is what we make of it, and mine will always be one full of exploration and gratitude. I’ll be posting this week from the beautiful Costa Rica where I’m blessed to be w/4 other friends. Have a great week, my Tumblr friends. xo -haven
These are the days of Marmont
Sky Bar and Trocadero
Where men compete and win with more dinero
A shrinking conscience balanced only by a growing erection
Where girls compete with equally shrinking character
Crushed by deception
Growing with lackluster personalities
In a town notorious for being ready for its close up
And ne’er an eyebrow raised for certain inequalities
Best known for a treasure trove of dreams
Yet still some always give up it seems
That may be Hollywood to some
But, not L.A.
My city shines and spreads it wings
Like the angels it eponymously claims
The real shining lights are not those on Sunset
Nor those dotting the mcmansion on the Hollywood Hills
Of that mogul gracing the latest cover of Celebrity
The real lights shine from parks - Griffith onto McArthur and Echo
From the factories of American Apparel
to the Mozza kitchen
Round the L.A. Mission
To pristine mansion marble floors
Scrubbed so, so sterile
Lights in some eyes have gone out
At Olive View
And LA. County jail
At the factories of Wonder Bread
Or Vermont and 92nd street
Where yours truly was raised
But, not in this girl
Not yet
Not ever
From the RTD to SAMOHI
From the Fairfax Market
And the now weekly jaunts across Mulllholland
Runyon and Fryman
This girl here
Is in touch and connected
Eyes lit brightly
Feet firmly planted
This girl here
She has learned
take nothing
nothing for granted

(Art by Haven, taken at Runyon Canyon 2011)
#Runyon Cyn, #Hollywood. The view was scrumptious today, running the trails to the likes of #Muse ‘Map of the Problematique’, Chemical Brothers ‘Dig Your Own Hole’ and Rage Against The Machine, oh yeah. Bring it!
#Hollywood (Runyon Canyon). Sunsets, sunrises this L.A. view is gorgeous no matter. My weekly Friday evening run, always feels incredible, cheers!
A morning run in the dewy hills of L.A. Hello body- it took 30-some yrs for me to honor and respect you. I’m not giving you up or giving you back. You are the vessel that holds this wonderful human spirit and mind of mine.
Made it to #Switzerland! welcomed by a beautiful sunny day. I’ve been walking around saying all the German sounding names out loud, cracking up & getting some funny looks and smirks- Pilatushof, Buobenmatt, Koyslichkeiten- at least ‘bus’ is still ‘bus.’ Hey, anything for a good belly laugh.
Au revoir, #Paris. This is one of my last shots. Now en route to #Switzerland… listening to Pete Yorn, Van Morrison, A Band of Horses and of course Ryan Adams, who made a surprise super last minute stop at Largo in L.A. last night and it pained me to find out I’d be missing it. I heart u Ry.
#Paris indeed, an escapade awaits. Took this shot tonight. I can almost hear Madeleine #Peyroux’s La Javaneise: “La vie ne vaut d’etre vecue sans amour. Mais c’est vous qui l’avez voulu mon amour.”
Ah today, tonight was almost perfect… In fact, it was.
And may I add that my French is all coming back to me. I haven’t had to say one word in English to locals tonight… from asking for directions, to purchasing tix to a tour on La Seine to ordering dinner and now a celebratory night cap. Bonsoir!
Driving through the French countryside on a gray, rainy day making my way to Paris. Something about the scenery and mood it sets is so poetic- forget napping, I’ve set out to finish a few of the poems long in my head. As we meander through the wet and dotted landscape, there’s plenty of opportunity to reflect on where I am and decisions that I’ve made. I stand by them all. They have made me the good person that I finally see I am, and I now live everyday knowing that if this is as good as it gets, I’m superbly blessed. My peace comes from knowing that, relishing in it rather than pushing to make tomorrow even greater. Tomorrow just somehow happens to nicely fall in to place… Now if only I had a strong cup of coffee, next stop ;).
But, it’s not always easy. Yesterday was such a crappy day, that by nighttime I made a deal with myself- if I packed and was ready by 10pm, I’d go down to the lounge and have a nice glass of wine and forget about it all rather than go to bed in a funk. The Rioja was great.
I didn’t get a chance to make all the playlists I wanted to for this Euro trip, but I’ll post some of the tunes that are keeping me company on this chill ride, and if you have any suggestions, by all means, pls message me xo.
Today was kind of a crummy day… Sitting at a chill loungey place having a gin & tonic trying to get over it, I noticed this gorgeous painting which perked me up. Not only is it grandiose in person, but I began to notice all the life in it and so I thought… ‘surely my day isn’t as bad as most out there.’ Okay seriously, as I’m writing this, my all-time favorite artist comes on, my darling Ryan Adams. Now if that’s not a sign of good things, I don’t know what is, as we know Ry is not the type of artist that just comes on at a cool loungey place in London, sigh.
I’m now in #Barcelona, a gorgeously romantic city I one day hope to come back and visit with a lover or a group of adventurous girlfriends and maybe find love or have fun attempting to find it ;)
Today’s “Haven’s Happenstance” #song - “The Music That’s Makin Me Feel Good Right Now Series” “New Slang” by The #Shins. So I begin my whirlwind European adventure this Thursday - a week and a half in London for work, then 3 weeks vacation throughout Europe - plus I also squeezed in a secret getaway that came together just this week. I’m so giddy, I’m going to explode at the seams. So, The Shins and this song put me in the best mood. Remember my series highlighting oldies? These guys totally capture that 60’s vibe, that free spirit, love for all sentiment. It also reminds me of Fleet Foxes. Dig.
Art “Machu Picchu” (by ∑ƒ∆) via black-wolves. I chose this image because it’s a shot I like to take of myself when I travel, and I plan to plop down in front of as many landscapes for a self portrait- except I usually kick my feet up in the air and click away;)
“Haven’s Happenstance: The Music That’s Makin Me Feel Good Right Now” song series: Because music has the power to change our mood, lift our spirit and even inspire us, I’m dedicating this song series to the music that’s making me feel good right now, and which does just all those things for me. Some new, some indie, some classics - but one thing’s certain, you will feel good listening to these.
Today’s “Haven’s Happenstance” #song - “The Music That’s Makin Me Feel Good Right Now Series” “It’s Been Done” by Angela #McCluskey. Ahh the sweetest sounds of Angela’s voice and melodies like honey. As I use music here to mirror love and relationships, this song fills me with hope knowing that love could be around the corner or that I may know it again one day soon. My favorite lyric here “I’m so proud of loving again…” I’m a ‘one-guy’ kinda girl, no doubt I’ll have fun finding him.
Art “Central Park, New York City” Moeys Photography via cityoflove. I chose this image because to me New York is one of the most romantic cities ever.
“Here I am on trains of solace
The moment I could win
Oh it’s so dumb that I’m intrigued by the thunder
and the lightning comes streaming into our home
but oh a summer of our own
it’s been done
it’s been done
and oh I’m so proud of loving, again
It’s been done
Wishing I was yours forever
Can we rely on love?
I was lost, cut underneath by another
and the feeling that crept into our home
but oh a winter of our own
it’s been done
it’s been done
and oh I’m so proud of living, again
crossing your heart and hope to die
the skin I’m touching will never die
crossing your heart and hope to die
the skin I’m touching will never die
And oh a winter of our own
it’s been done
it’s been done
and oh I’m so proud of loving again”

Birds
on a wire
take F L I G H T,
a d r i f t in a f l u t t e r
A formation at first sight seems all too cluttered
Far well too formed for us humans to see
Birds’ wings s p r e a d, knuckle-less clutching
What us humans G I V E, give away for f r e e
Birds commingle, cohabitate, chat and sINg
Bonds, convivial memories and m e l o d i e s
Lots of them, to their hearts’ C O N T E N T
And we, on the ground fighting, longing, blind- far too blind to see
A forced smile, a fake hello, an improper h u g… far too disconnected
Humans we are, and this way we continue to b e
Birds on a wire under the sun, wind and rain
On a traffic light, a swing or window pane
Humans in cars, in offices living day to day
in a world so m u n d a n e
Such is the world here
But I SEE them, I see them everyday
And strive to be like them,
a f l u t t e r,
a d r i f t
And one day,
like them
I will get carried
AwAY
